Information for Parents – Spring Term 2019

Year 2

Topic for this term:

Moon Zoom and Capital Cardiff

Any further details about this term’s topic:

This half term our topic is Moon Zoom! CRASH! What’s in the playground? Let’s go outside and take a look.  Stand back everyone – it looks like we have a special outer space package delivery!

Find out who might have landed by exploring the craft and investigating scattered scientific specimens.

Would you like to be an astronaut?  You’ll need a pretty sturdy spacecraft if you do.  Start off small by making a rocket…WHOOSH! How far can you make it travel?

Find out the names of the planets and order from the sun.

Then, an alien is found…can you help make him feel welcome?  Maybe you could arrange a party and celebrate his arrival.

Next half term, we will be looking at Cardiff.  Where is it?  What can you do there? What special landmarks are there? What special events take place there? How is it different or the same to the place that you live?  Explore these questions and learn more about this important city, the capital of Wales.

Our role play areas will include – a spaceship, a shop and a castle We will be learning rhymes, songs and reading a variety of stories linked to our topics.

Where possible we will fit our literacy, number, science, dance, IT, music and art into the topic too.

We will also be celebrating St David’s Day.

Days homework will be set:

Days homework is to be in:

Days which PE kit will be needed:

Tuesday, but it would be useful if PE kit is kept in school every day in case of changes to the timetable. Also, please pop a spare pair of pants and socks into the kit.

Any other ways parents can help (e.g. help needed with readers, items that can be sent in related to the topic )

If anyone is able to help on Wild Walks we would be very grateful.

We would appreciate your support this term with listening to your child read every night and with practising spelling their high frequency words and letter formation.

If anyone is able to help on Wild Walks we would be very grateful.

Any other general reminders.

Your child will need a piece of fruit for break time.

On Wednesday’s children in the Foundation Phase are able to wear non uniform as Wednesday’s will consist of exciting Wild Walks and Theme days. These clothes should be old as they are likely to get a little mucky! It would be useful if a pair of wellies could be left in school for the term.

Otherwise, please ensure that the appropriate school uniform and footwear is worn.

Book bags need to be sent to school every Thursday.

Thank you for your help and support.

Many thanks-Mrs Anthony
